Age limit to run for President

Age limit to run for President

To run for President, a person must be below the age of 65 to run for a first term.

Points

People should be able to retire at age 65, including people in Congress. To make the limit older is to suggest that there isn't enough talent coming up in the ranks and denies younger leaders the opportunity to serve. It doesn't mean they have to leave Congress at age 65 if they are already in office. They can still run for office at age 64 and in the Senate they'd be 70 when done. I see no advantage to an older age-limit except to those in office who have built up power & influence over time.

To suggest that people work beyond the age of 65 is a trap of our Capitalist system that makes it impossible to retire for many people. If we don't set the example and make the expectation that at age 65 a person is in retirement, then Congress will continue to push back the retirement age on other things such as receiving Social Security and Healthcare.

I would say 55, TBH. The older people get, they have less at stake in the future and their alibies begin to get diminished. I am 58, I can tell. I used to be sharper and could learn new things easier. If I competed against my younger self in brain games, I would lose all the time.

I changed the language to clarify

I agree that age is a consideration. I believe that humans are able to be fully engaged and functional beyond age 65. There should be a cutoff, however it should be older than 65

Our politicians are too old. They are making decisions about a future in which they may not be alive. We need leaders who still have some youth, vigor and mental acumen
